The University of Sharjah is a non-profit independent institution with a total enrollment of 9,500 students and 450 full-time faculty members. The University offers diverse programs in a variety of specializations through the Colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Medicine, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, the Community College, and College of Graduate Studies and Research.  The Community College offers programs in Information Technology, Library and Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, and Secretarial and Office Management, diploma programs in Food Safety, Environmental and Health Safety, Pharmacy Assistant and Dental Assistant, and higher diploma programs in Dental Hygiene and Dental Laboratory Technology. SCOPE OF WORK
The Dean of Community College reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  The Dean directs, administers, and coordinates all research, educational and training activities related to the College’s five campuses in the Emirate of Sharjah (Sharjah, Maleiha, Khorfakkan, Kalba, and Dibba), develops in cooperation with the faculty strategic directions and educational and training plans for the College, and integrates College activities within the socio-cultural framework of the UAE and region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Dean is expected to:
• Establish and supervise the implementation of strategic directions, goals, objectives and policies in relation to education, training and administration within the College.
• Forge strong links between the College and local community organizations to enable the College to achieve its mission.
• Recommend and supervise the development and implementation of the annual budget for the College and perform periodic productivity and effectiveness analyses.
• Recommend and supervise the development of study plans and training programs for current and future majors in the College.
• Call for and chair College Council meetings, supervise the implementation of its decisions, follow up on academic departmental meetings and study their decisions and recommendations.
• Follow up on education and administrative processes in the College and take all necessary steps to ensure that they are carried out properly.
• Assess staffing and administrative needs, determine job descriptions and supervise the review of job applicants and staff selection.
• Participate in University council meetings and committees and carry out their decisions and recommendations.
• Meet academic accreditation requirements set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for academic departments in the College.
• Follow up on student cases through departmental chairpersons and college advisors.
• Supervise the implementation of surveys for market needs analyses in the UAE and propose specializations that the College should offer in accordance with such studies.
• Carry out any other duties entrusted to the Dean by the Vice Chancellor.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant must possess the following:
• The rank of full professor in administration, health or information technology.
• Strong background in Sciences, Applied Sciences or Health Sciences.
• A clear vision for the strategies and mission of vocational training at the community college level.
• Administrative experience in community colleges.  Preference will be given to applicants who have already held the position of Dean in a community college.
• Full command of spoken and written English.
• Experience with the credit hour system.
